Hi, I’m Patience, I’m ten years old and I LOVE to dance (and that isn’t an over-exaggeration!) I dance all the time, for example, when I’m alone in my bedroom and during breaks in the playground at school! This, however, is becoming very difficult to maintain as the school work has piled up on top of my desk. Year 6 is extremely hard, and I know it’s only going to get worse, so I try my hardest to keep some free time to practice my dancing.
My dance groups are two of the best street dance crews ever, well in my opinion at least! I practice with Lucy, my favourite dance teacher, and a group of people I get along with twice a week. One is Eximius on a Wednesday lunch break in school where we can all have a fun time and even go to a few dance shows and competitions, e.g. The Great Big Dance Off in Wimbledon and Featherstone High School in Southall. The other is on a Saturday from 12:30 to 2:30 where we have crew training and focus on building ourselves as dancers and go to bigger and better competitions. You could get big opportunities to be the next break-through street-dancer!
As I have been on both teams longer than anybody else (three and a half years to be precise!) I have a good idea of what I need to do to improve my skills. I try my hardest to come to every session, I also try to come prepared, e.g. a full water bottle, wearing trainers, a snack (on Saturdays) and a big bag of energy!
If you have a passion for dance, I would say always try your hardest and you will get there. You never know, someone could be waiting for the perfect opportunity for a dancer just like you!??
